Q: What is the objective of the TOFSA?

The TOFSA aims to recognize the valuable contribution of the Filipino seafarer not only in domestic shipping but in the world maritime industry. Filipino seafarers account for almost a quarter of the total population of the world maritime fleet and thru this award, we will be able to highlight the competence, professionalism and dedication of our seafarers. Further, the project is in line with the International Maritime Organization ()IMO) Diplomatic Conference to be held in Manila on 21-25 June 2010.


 

Q: Who are qualified for the awards?

Any seafarer in the active service either as an officer or rating and who has demonstrated outstanding contribution or accomplishment in ensuring efficiency of ship operations, reducing marine pollution, safety management, bravery at sea, enhancing the image of seafaring, fostering camaraderie and goodwill or any accomplishment/achievement beyond the call of duty.


 

Q: When is the nomination period?

April 12- May 15, 2010 (extended up to May 21, 2010)


 

Q: Who may submit the nomination?

Any individual person, organization, association or agency may nominate a seafarer; the seafarer himself may submit the nomination.


 

Q: How do we nominate?

Download the official nomination form from the DOLE website at www.dole.gov.ph and submit it to the TOFSA Secretariat by fax, email or surface mail on or before the deadline.


 

Q: How will the winners be selected?

The Executive Committee will initially evaluate the nominations received by the TOFSA Secretariat and shall make a shortlist of its recommended candidates. This list will be endorsed to the Board of Jurors who will select the awardees.


 

Q: Who are the Board of Jurors?

The members of the Board of Jurors will be the respectable stakeholders in the industry with impeccable credentials.


 

Q: What will be given to the winners?

Trophy and Cash Award


 

Q: When will be the Awarding Ceremony?

This will be held on June 22, 2010 in time for the IMO Diplomatic Conference. Venue will be announced on a later date.


 

Q: Who is the coordinating agency?

The coordinating agency for this project will be the Maritime Training Council.
